Abstract

Monografie se zabývá sociolingvistickou analýzou současné situace ve Španělsku. Vychází z detailního popisu jazyků a dialektů současného Španělska a snaží se načrtnout jazykovou dimenzi konfliktů, ke kterým dochází v tomto mnohojazyčném státě.

Abstract

Intra-individual variation is an emerging research field in linguistics with a rapidly growing number of studies. In historical sociolinguistics, this trend has been slow, as it is still largely dominated by the macroscopic approaches of earlier sociolinguistics. Microscopic studies focusing on intra-individual variation in writing, i.e. intra-writer variation, however, are able to reveal how writers functionalize social or text-type variation for reasons such as audience design or persona creation. They may also provide insights into how ongoing changes were perceived by speakers and writers. In general, micro-approaches are able to uncover a wide array of possible factors influencing variation, which may not always carry sociolinguistic functions. This volume comprises twenty-two research articles on a wide range of languages and periods, all closely connected by their focus on intra-writer variation in historical texts and by their use of empirical and corpus-based approaches. The studies demonstrate that the challenges that historical material have for research on intra-individual variation can certainly be met and that the insights gleaned from analysing variation in individual writers are considerable.

Abstract

"Drawing on examples from a wide range of languages and social settings, The Routledge Handbook of Sociolinguistics Around the World was originally the first single-volume collection surveying the current research trends in international sociolinguistics. This new edition has been comprehensively updated and significantly expanded and now includes over fifty chapters written by leading authorities and a brand new substantial introduction by John Edwards. Coverage has been expanded regionally and there is a critical focus on indigenous languages. This handbook remains a key tool to help widen the perspective on sociolinguistics to readers interested in the field. Divided into sections covering: The Americas, Asia, Australasia, Africa, and Europe, the book provides readers with a solid, up-to-date appreciation of the interdisciplinary nature of the field of sociolinguistics in each area. It clearly explains the patterns and systematicity that underlie language variation in use, as well as the ways in which alternations between different language varieties mark personal style, social power and national identity. The Routledge Handbook of Sociolinguistics around the World is the ideal resource for all students on undergraduate sociolinguistics courses and researchers involved in the study of language, society and power"--

Abstract

This book extends new lines of inquiry on intra- and interlingual translation, building on Jakobson's classification of translational relations to take into account the full complexity of language and the role of social dimensions in fostering linguistic unity and identity. Jovanovi argues that intra- and interlingual translation do not form a stable relationship but, in fact, are both contingent on how languages and their borders are defined. Chapters unpack the causes and effects of this instability through the lens of Serbo- Croatian literature, where the impact of sociopolitical pressure on language over time can be keenly observed. Drawing on work from translation studies, sociolinguistics, close reading, distant reading, and discourse analysis, Jovanovi charts how linguistic fluidity, where linguistic borders are challenged at both the macro and themicro level as a result of sociopolitical change, in turns shapes literary and cultural circulation. In its examination of the intersection of the linguistic and social in translational relations in the Serbo- Croatian context, the book can offer wider insights into better understanding the literary and translational landscape of analogous sociolinguistic and geographic milieus. This volume will be of interest to scholars in literary translation, translation theory, sociology of translation, comparative literature, and multilingualism.
